Sensational Seasoner Opener

Well, its been a long time between posts. Its also been a long winter of training and now spring and summer are here and the racing season is underway.
School Sport WA is the traditional start of the season for Juniors in WA and Duncraig Triathlon Academy hit the event at full speed and dominated the event. Taking out the Individual Champion School for the eighth year in a row. With a massive field of starters we were always going to be a force to reckon with.
Race format saw the serious competitors head out first with those chasing State Team selection, Senior Boys and Girls followed by Intermediate and Juniors. Duncraig had a field day with the medal count. Liam McCoach 2nd, Brandon Swift 4th, Drew Corrigan 7th and Micah Wynter 9th in the Senior Boys and Tarinah Nazaroff 2nd in the Senior Girls. Intermediate Racing was hot and fast with Joanna Maynard and Zak Williams both collecting silver medals and the top ten in both age groups being dominated by Duncraig students. Juniors also saw several current and a few future students claim top ten spots and the possibility of claiming a spot in the WA School Sport State Team.

After the selection races came the Fun and Teams events, this is where some of our students showed their skills and abilities in individual legs and impressed. Paige Higgins had a sensational swim and bike in the Novice, Fun event and was leading onto the run leg. Our year 9 girls who all raced the Intermediate Selection race backed up and podium in a teams relay.
A great day as always and School Sport WA put on an outstanding event, that allowed our athletes to really showcase their skills. Thank you.

Our next big event will be Hillary's Trievents Triathlon being held at Whitfords Nodes Beach on Sunday 14th December, a great way to finish off the school year and to start the Christmas celebrations, make sure you get down and cheer the Duncraig students on.

Good luck to all the Duncraig students who are also traveling to round 1 of the ITU Junior National Series in Runaway Bay, Qld on the same weekend.

See you all out there on the course!

New Year, New Beginnings

Its been a long time between posts, school holidays are now but a distant memory and school is now halfway through term 1. Long enough to remember the daily routine. The Triathletes are now training strongly in an effort to get ready for the compulsory triathlon for this term. The Triathlon is the final round of the Telstra Triathlon Series run by TriEvents. The race is due to be held at Hillarys, Nodes Beach on Sunday 7th April. The year 9's and 10's are now used to this course having raced several times but for the year 8's it is the beginning of the triathlon years at school. Hopefully the conditions will be nice and allow he students to all enjoy success.

We suffered a few minor setbacks when we started out riding this year, with our first year 8 riding ending in disaster and an early turn around, hopefully we have no more incidents and all the students can become strong riders.

At the end of last year we were fortunate enough to move onto a new bike shop to supply and service our bikes. Bikeforce Balcatta have been a great addition to the team and the Trek bikes suit our needs perfectly.

Two weeks ago was the school swimming carnival, held at Craigie Leisure Centre. The swim meet was a huge success with the Triathlon students claiming victory in the year 8 boys, year 9 boys, year 11 boys, year 12 boys and all but the year 8 girls age groups. The Triathletes came to the fore and dominated in all the races. From the school swim meet a team was picked to represent the school at the State School Sport WA Swimming Championships. Duncraig will have 65 students represent in the B grade carnival on Thursday 14th March at Challenge Stadium.

Finally, congratulations to Jo Robertson, Drew Corrigan, Wes Thomson, Brandon Swift and Kaitlyn Illingworth on qualifying to represent WA at the National Schools Triathlon Championships.

Hopefully, I will be a little more regular with my updates this year.

Hello Everyone,

I know its been along time between updates, my bad I have been very lazy.

So we now start the new school year, with some very exciting prospects for 2012.

Firstly congratulations to the students that have made the School Sport WA Team for Schools Nationals to be held in Busselton in April 2012. Those students are Jo Robertson, Brandon Swift, Liam McCoach, Mitchell Williams, Megan Elt, Tarinah Nazaroff, Alicia Buchanan, Ben Walton and Sam Zehnder.

Congratulations also need to go to Alicia and Shannon Sherwin for making the Cycling WA State Track Team!

At the end of last year I spent a week in Qld with the National Junior Talent Academy, this was a very valuable learning experience and I hope to be able to share my learning with the students throughout this year to help develop them into elite athletes.

I look forward to working with you all and having some great experiences.

House Athletics Carnival

Hi Everyone,

Again been awhile since I last reported back, but what a sensational day we had today! The morning provided perfect weather for fast running, almost no wind, overcast and just the right temperature saw many of the Triathlete's dominate early in the running events.
A big congratulations to all those that took part and earned a large number of podium finishes. We may have even had several records broken, not only today but over the last week in the lead up to the carnival. The 3k Cross Country last Friday is a perfect example were at least 6 records were broken, all by either current or former members of the Triathlon program.
On the training front, the students have been going great on the bike with all three groups comfortably being able to ride over 30k in a training session.
Hopefully as the nice weather continues to become more regular, the students will start to see all their hard work pay off as their fitness levels sky rockets.

Congratulations to all those students putting in the hard work, it will pay off!
